Take Responsibility

When you don't, you become the victim.

11/30/2020 | The Monday Minute

Text Version:

Hey this is Kirby Hasseman with the Monday Minute.

Let me paint you a picture.  You are meeting someone that you have committed to work with to help them grow.  At this get together over coffee, they start to explain why they have not been able to complete the tasks the two of you have set out for them.  You patiently listen as they tell you that “there are not enough hours in the day” or “they don’t have the money” or their “team won’t get on board.”

What do you tell them?

If you are being honest with them, you look them in the eye and say “It’s your fault.”  You won’t want to say it.  And they for sure will not want to hear it.  But that doesn’t make it less true.

The fact is, if you want to lead a successful life, you need to take responsibility for everything.  You need to look in the mirror and at your own decisions…and own it.  There is nearly always something you could have done.  This is not being a martyr.  Quite the opposite.  In every situation, you could have done something differently…so you have a chance to learn and grow.

Will there be things that are out of your control…sure.  But when you don’t look to take responsibility for everything you enter the life of a victim.  And that is no place to grow.  Don’t have enough time?  Stop watching TV.  Get up earlier…whatever.  But it’s a choice…and it’s yours to make.  At the end of the day, it’s time to own your current situation.

If you do…you have the ability to change your life. If you don’t…you don’t.

Thanks for choosing to watch this.  Feel free to share it!  It might help someone who needs to hear it.  Thanks for watching the Monday Minute!
