7 Design Tips To Better Market Yourself

Plus Some Social Media Advice

9/16/2021 | Designer Patch

When this blog comes out, I will be flying back from our company meeting where we spent time team building, reviewing 2021 goals, and planning our 2022 focus. Inspired by looking at what we have accomplished, I thought it would be fitting to do a recap of my first year of Designer Patch articles that discussed the key points of graphic design.

1. 5 Key Elements of a Flyer
Do your flyers suffer from visual clutter? This article breaks down the five key elements of a flyer and how you can utilize them to boost the performance of your flyer.

2. How to Simplify Your Flyers While Increasing Impact
This was my most popular article of 2020! In it, I discussed why you need to be deliberate in what you add to your flyers and where each piece is placed.

3. How to Find Inspiration
If your creative juices aren’t flowing, that’s ok, we’ve all been there. In this article, I shared a few ideas on where you can turn to reignite the spark of inspiration.

4. The Value of Color
Did you know colors can evoke emotions? This is why it is important to consider the colors you use in your flyers. I share two important rules to remember when adding color and four ways to use color to create a cohesive look.

5. Typography Basics to Increase … Sales?
This article breaks down why you need to be careful with your type selection, how you can structure it for hierarchical purposes, ways to create a tone/vibe for a flyer, and a small rant on forced justification.

6. How to Avoid Copyright Infringement
If you take anything away from Designer Patch, I hope it’s this important bit of information. I cannot stress enough how important it is to make sure you are correctly obtaining and using photos and other forms of visual content.

7. Are You Calling Your Customers to Action?
Did you know you can easily direct customers where you want them to go when they’re viewing your flyer? I provide six simple ways to get your customers to click through your flyers to your desired destination.

Thank you to Phil Martin (National Sales Manager at Warwick Publishing) and Thomas Rector (CEO of ScreenBroidery) for contributing to this article.
